First acadamic university build by a muslim woman

People who think Islam oppresses women and their education. Clearly are in error about Islam and clearly have never heard of Fatima Al Fihri ? Well you should. A muslim woman born in tunisia in north africa. Her family moved to a prominant city at the time and dispite being poor, they were able to build a successful business and profit from it. When her father and brother passed away, she along with her sister inherited large sums of money and being charitable decided to build a masjid called Masjid Al Andalus.. Then she helped do something that will go down in the history books to be one of the greatest achievements by a woman and she funded a the very first academic university in the world pretty much. This university is still educating people till today. it's called Al Qarrawiyyin University..

This university wasn’t only a big achievement when it comes to education, it was also a great opportunity for Muslims to unite with European cultures. Different non-Muslims studied at the Al Qarrawiyyin University. Probably because of its wide range of subjects. For a university built in the 9th century in a Muslim country you’d think that the only things that were taught were the Quran and the Fiqh, which is known as the Islamic legislation. But that was not the case, there a-were a lot of different subjects such as: geology, astrology, grammar, chemistry, medicine, mathematics and even music! To me the most admirable thing about Fatima is that she was a woman with a vision. Even though she was a wealthy women she still decided to invest this money in other people and in education. Fatima died in 880 CE and it’s almost 1135 years later but the Al Qarrawiyyin University is still existent and is known as one of the highly appreciated Moroccan universities. She is one of many great women in the muslim family. Mohammad reminded people the important role for women in society, as partners in life and the after. Looking back can't help but admit the first to believe in Mohammad was his wife and she was the first muslim as well. He was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences. Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah. He is in the final stages of completing his PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University.

His published works include Riya'a: The Hidden Shirk, Du'aa: The Weapon of the Believer, An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an, and many others. He is also active on a number of Islamic Satellite stations around the world including Islam Channel, Al-Huda Channel, and PeaceTV.
